McDermott: Milano did a good job in limited role on Sunday

The Bills linebacker played just 19 snaps in the win over the Jets

Buffalo Bills linebacker Matt Milano played only 19 snaps on Sunday against the New York Jets in his first game back since missing a pair of contests due to a pectoral muscle injury. That number represented only 33% of the team’s defensive plays.

Head coach Sean McDermott said he felt Milano played well given his limited role, but didn’t specifically say how he fared physically following the game.

“We just have to see,” McDermott said of Milano’s status for this week. “He’s coming off a pretty significant injury there, but I thought he did a good job. Mentally he was in a good spot today and we’ll just see how it goes throughout the rest of the week here.”

The Bills host the New England Patriots this Sunday in Orchard Park.

During a typical NFL game, the media is alerted to any players who leave due to injury, and are told of that player’s chances of returning to the field. No Bills players were announced as having any injuries during their 18-10 victory over the Jets, which is an encouraging sign heading into this week. However, that doesn’t mean everyone automatically escaped healthy.

The team will hold its first practice of the week on Wednesday, then distribute the first injury report of the week afterward.

Roster moves and status:

Following Sunday’s game, cornerback Dane Jackson, linebacker Andre Smith, offensive lineman Jordan Devey, and wide receiver Duke Williams all automatically reverted back to the practice squad. Jackson and Smith were added to the active roster as replacements for tight ends Dawson Knox and Lee Smith, who were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday afternoon.

Williams and Devey were added to the active roster as standard practice squad elevations. The team gets two of those each week.

On Saturday, the Bills also placed linebacker Tyrel Dodson on Injured Reserve with a hamstring injury, so they currently have one open roster spot.

However, guard Jon Feliciano must be activated this week from Injured Reserve or he won’t be able to play this season. Also, cornerback Levi Wallace is eligible to return from Injured Reserve after missing his minimum three game requirement, if the team chooses to do so.
