Well, not a great start in Detroit for Jamie Collins.
The newly-signed linebacker was ejected from Sunday's season-opener against the Bears for headbutting a referee early in the second quarter.
No, it wasn't done out of malice. It appeared that Collins was trying to demonstrate how Bears running back David Montgomery was leading with the crown of his helmet.
But once Collins made contact with the official, the rules are the rules. He was assessed a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and disqualified from the game.
It's a bad mistake by a veteran player, one who the Lions are counting on as a leader on defense.
Collins signed a three-year, $30 million deal with Detroit in the offseason.
