Police in Laurel are searching for a person accused of luring and then killing seagulls in a shopping center parking lot last weekend.

The unidentified person bought a bag of pre-popped popcorn at Dollar Tree and emptied the bag in the parking lot to gain the birds’ attention, police said.

The person then ran over the group of birds, killing at least 10 before fleeing the scene. Police noticed the dead birds upon arriving.

The incident occurred between 9 and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday in the Laurel Plaza Shopping Center, police said.
