The power of a dynamic duo is undeniable, there’s Batman and Superman, Hall and Oates, Shaq and Kobe, and now, Moon Man and Slim Shady.
Yes, you read that right, Kid Cudi and Eminem just released their brand new single, "The Adventures of Moon Man and Slim Shady.”
Cudi’s sidekick and adorable daughter Vada helped her dad announce the team-up a few days ago on Twitter. “And now a word from Princess Vada the chosen…”, the rapper captioned the clip.
“Hey it’s Vada,” she says in the short video. “I’m here to say that my daddy’s new single ‘The Adventures of Moon Man and Slim Shady’ is coming out on Friday. Check it out. Bye!”
Well, the song is officially out and you better listen to Vada and check it out, trust, you definitely don’t want to miss this one.
The track produced by Dot Da Genius, J Gramm and Eminem is a vibe right out the gate, starting off with Cudder delivering a classic string of “yeps.” Both Cudi and Em give the song their own spin rapping about a plethora of topics from recovery to current events over the eerie yet still boppy melody. Cudi kicks things off on the first verse, "Yeah, it’s been a minute, but I’m back in it…G ot a little trippy, then I transitioned.” The rapper goes on to touch on his stint in rehab and going through the “dark and the light.”
“Years ago, rehab/All good, helped me figure out another plan/It got bad so bad.”
Then it was Em’s turn, and he did not hold back, not that anyone thought he would. Duh it’s Slim Shady.
In his verse the Detroit rapper covered everything from COVID to police brutality, “Half of us walking around like a zombie apocalypse,” he raps. “Other half are just pissed off and don’t want to wear a mask.” A few bars after that Eminem raps, “Prayers for George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery/How the f*** is it that so many cops are dirty?”
He even made some time to shout out Lil Wayne and throw some shade at New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. "I don't do weed (Nope)/Purp nor lean (Nah), that's Tunechi (Yeah)/That's New Orleans (Yeah), f*** Drew Brees (Yeah)."
Rumors of a potential collab between the two sparked back in May, when Cudi tagged Em in a tweet that read, “rap God. Help!”
The track closed out with a promise of more to come, “The adventures of Moon Man and Slim/Yes, who want it with them?/The trilogy continues… yes, see what’s on the menu.”
Uh, yes please, well have another and then another, also could we have fries with that? For now though, while we wait, just do as Vada says and check it out.
In addition to the epic collab with Eminem, Cudi ’s been keeping busy, collaborated with Kanye West on an upcoming Kids See Ghost animated series. Additionally, the Ohio native rapper and actor will also appear in the HBO mini-series, We Are Who We Are. The coming-of-age story follows two teenagers living with their families on a U.S. military base in Italy. The eight-part series will land on HBO sometime in September on an unconfirmed date.
