As the family and friends of Kobe Bryant celebrate his birthday, the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation chimed in a day early with a tribute to the late Los Angeles Lakers player.
The foundation, which uses youth sports and charitable actions to elevate Kobe Bryant and daughter Gianna Bryant's legacy, shared a video on Saturday produced by Nike that paid tribute to the basketball star.
Today would have been Kobe's 42nd birthday.
In the clip, a Kobe voiceover can be heard saying in the clip, "I don't care who you are, where you're from, doesn't matter. You wake up every single day to get better today than you were yesterday. That's always the most important thing."
The timing of the video was perfect, airing at 2:24 pm, a tribute to Kobe and Gianna's respective jersey numbers, 2 and 24.
The foundation also shared a link to their new website as part of their prelaunch. Now mambaandmambacita.org, they've discontinued their previous link, mambasportsacademy.com/mamba-sports-foundation/.
Kobe, Gianna, and seven others were killed in a horrific helicopter crash on January 26. They were all on their way to a basketball game at Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks.
The foundation made their name change announcement back in February in an effort to honor both Kobe, The Black Mamba, and Gianna, Mambacita.
"In commemoration of Gianna 'Gigi' Bryant, Mamba Sports Foundation will now be known as the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation," the foundation said.
