The Miami Hurricanes got embarrassed on their home field in a must-win game against North Carolina on Saturday. Miami’s hope for a New Years Six game evaporated as the Tar Heels ran for 554 yards in their 66-26 blow-out win.
Miami is now left searching for answers as to why they struggled to the extent that they did on Saturday. Coach Manny Diaz joined The Joe Rose Show on Monday morning and was clear about what happened.
“It was just simply an ass-kicking,” Diaz told The Joe Rose Show with Zach Krantz.
With a few days to reflect on what he saw, Coach Diaz expanded on his thoughts.
“Our energy and enthusiasm was not what it had been and not what it had ended to be," Diaz said. "When you watch the film you do see guys playing with effort. ... It was just simply an ass-kicking. When we made adjustments and did some movements and some things that are designed to take away the run that they were doing that have been there for us all year, we just didn’t execute those things. And we have to coach those things a lot better and just bring a lot more fight in the way we play in our front seven to stop a run game like this.”
Miami will still get the opportunity to play in a bowl game to see if they can bounce back.
