NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut College is expanding its student health services through a new partnership with Hartford HealthCare and its Campus Care program.

Starting in August, Hartford HealthCare will provide student services in behavioral health, sports medicine and urgent care for the college.

According to Connecticut College Dean of Students Victor Arcelus, staffing will be increased with Hartford HealthCare's on-campus medical services.

Student athletes will have access to trainers and physicians while competing as well as a network of specialized medical professionals and consultants, Arcelus said.

Services will also be available off campus through Hartford HealthCare's partnership with GoHealth Urgent Care. Arcelus said this will allow for extended hours and "an enhanced continuity of care" for students.

Though talk about collaboration began about six months ago, prior to the pandemic, Hartford HealthCare President and CEO Jeffrey Flaks said, "In the midst of a global pandemic, a partnership like this has never been more critical."

Connecticut College is the newest addition to Hartford HealthCare's Campus Care program which, according to Hartford HealthCare officials, provides services for more than 8,000 students and 1,300 student athletes across the state.

College President Katherine Bergeron said faculty are finalizing plans for when students return on August 24.
