(Norwalk, Conn./WTIC) - Norwalk police report eight opioid overdoses in the city since last Wednesday, five of which resulted in deaths.

Police won't comment on the scope of the investigation in terms of suspects or where the bad drugs came from.

They do say the incidents occurred in relative proximity to one another.

Norwalk officials say their city is not immune to the scourge of opioids that has gripped so many cities across the U.S.

Officials urge caregivers and those in who know addicts to the call 911 in the event of an emergency.

They also advise the public to check on opioid programs, Narcan training, and treatment by going to the web site of the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
