ROYAL OAK TWP. (WWJ) - Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and injured two pedestrians in Royal Oak Township.

The incident unfolded around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday when police received a report of a pedestrian being struck by a black, newer model Dodge Challenger in the 20000 block of Westview, off 8 Mile Road east of Wyoming Avenue.

Troopers arrived and determined that two men were struck by the vehicle, which continued southbound on Westview towards 8 Mile. Both had minor injuries and were transported to the hospital as a precaution.

Police say the suspect vehicle may have damage from an earlier crash and believe the incident may be connected to another incident that occurred earlier in Detroit.

Witnesses also told police they thought they heard gunshots being fired into the air from the vehicle. No one was struck by the gunfire and one shell casing was recovered from the scene.

The suspect is described only as a black male with a medium complexion.

Detectives are still investigating the incident and are continuing to interview witnesses. Police said one of the victims had not yet been interviewed because he was in surgery, but did not specify what the surgery was for.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Metro North Post at 248-584-5740. Tips can also be submitted through the Michigan State Police's mobile app.
