ORION TWP. (WWJ) - Charges are expected to come down Tuesday for an Oakland County man who allegedly murdered his mother.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, 59-year-old Delora Margaret Roberts was strangled and stabbed by her 29-year old son at her home on Rohr Rd. in Orion Township, early Sunday morning.
Investigators say the suspect's 60-year-old uncle, the victim's brother, was awakened by the sounds of the attack; and when he tried to intervene, he too was stabbed.
He ran to a neighbor's house and called 911, telling the dispatcher that he could still hear Roberts screaming.
Minutes later, the uncle reporter he saw the suspect walking down Rohr Rd. covered in blood and crying. Deputes responded, and took him into custody.
Roberts, found in the home with multiple stab wounds, was taken to McLaren-Oakland Hospital where she died of her injuries. The uncle was treated for non-life threatening stab wounds and released.
Sheriff's officials said the suspect has a criminal past that includes a sex offense, malicious destruction of property and obstructing police. He was treated for a suspected self-inflicted stab wound to the neck, released from the hospital and lodged in the Oakland County Jail.
The suspect's name is being withheld pending his arraignment, expected to take place Tuesday.
