PONTIAC (WWJ) - A 25-year-old man is under arrest after he allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend's brother and shot two other young men who were trying to collect the woman's belongings.
Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 600 block of Lydia, off Elizabeth Lake Road just east of Telegraph in Pontiac, after receiving a report of a possible shooting with the victim lying in the street. The caller identified the shooter by name and told police he was still at the location.
While en route, police were advised that other victims were possibly being transported to a local hospital.
At the scene, deputies located an obviously deceased victim -- identified as 20-year-old Giovanni Smith of West Bloomfield -- with a gunshot wound to the head, lying on the grass between the sidewalk and street in front of a home.
As they approached the home, a 25-year-old man came outside and identified himself using the name the caller had mentioned as the shooter. At that point, the man was taken into custody. A firearm believed to be used in the shooting was also located inside the home.
Deputies went to the hospital and located the other two victims, a 21-year-old Farmington Hills man and 16-year-old West Bloomfield boy. One had been shot in the leg and the other was shot in the arm; neither of the injuries are life-threatening.
The victims told police they had gone to the home on Lydia to pick up some of Smith's sister's belongings after she had broken up with the suspect. An argument ensued on the front porch and the suspect entered the home, came out with a handgun and began firing rounds at them as they ran from the residence. Smith was shot dead while the other two victims were able to get away.
The suspect is currently lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending charges.
The incident remains under investigation.
