(WWJ) Vaccination sites for seniors in eight Wayne County communities will open next week.

“I’m pleased Wayne County is now in a position to begin vaccinating seniors,” Wayne County Executive Warren Evans said in a release. “I know everyone is eager to safely get back to normal. Our team is working hard to ensure all of our residents can get their COVID shot as quickly as the vaccine is available. Every vaccinated resident gets us closer to ending the pandemic.”

Wayne County residents 65 or older who live in the following eight communities will be eligible for a vaccine at the clinics.

Seniors only in the cities below should contact the nearest site to schedule their appointment, according to the county. Walk-ups will not be accepted.

Bill Nowling with the Wayne County Executive Office said do not be discouraged if your community is not on the list. More communities are expected to be announced in the coming weeks and days as more vaccines become available.

Nowling added that seniors should continue to seek vaccines through their hospital system or pharmacy. However, he added these vaccination clinics provide an option for people who cannot drive far from home or do not have a standing relationship with a hospital/health system.

To date, Wayne County Public Health has administered over 36,600 vaccines to essential workers and is scheduled to administer another 13,000 in the next week.

NOTE: The original published draft of this article did not make explicitly clear that you must be a resident of one of the eight cities to get a vaccine at the clinic in that community, or a resident of the community that the clinic is servicing. Upon further communication with the county, it has been modified to clarify that fact.
