5 Mardi Gras dance troupes rebuke Nyx

Five dance troupes that routinely accompany Mardi Gras parades have announced they will no longer participate in the Mystic Krewe of Nyx, according to The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate.

It is the latest blowback against Nyx founder and captain Julie Lea, after a social media post featuring the hashtagged phrase "All lives matter."

Since the controversy over that post erupted, more than two dozen Nyx float lieutenants demanded Lea's resignation, and subsequently resigned themselves when Lea refused.

"Although we have enjoyed years of marching in your parade – one that represented the sisterhood that we too embrace – we can no longer be a part of this parade," reads a letter from the Pussyfooters, and all-female dance troupe.

The Pussyfooters are joined by the Muff-a-lottas, Krewe de Lune, the Cosmonaughties, and the Sirens.
