Car-free French Quarter?

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell says she has formed a task force to explore making the French Quarter pedestrian-only.

The revelation came during a town hall discussion hosted by Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate. The mayor said she's looking for ways to bring people closer to "the fabric of the city."

"I call it 'No cars in the quarter,"' she said. "They've been working very hard."

The mayor said she's considering multiple pedestrian malls, pointing to a recent conversion of Moss Street along Bayou St. John into a pedestrian walk as an example.

The mayor said she expects her task force to make a report to her soon.
