New Orleans Police are looking for a female driver they say murdered another woman on St. Louis Street at Bourbon Street.

"At about 12:03 a.m., Eighth District officers responded to a call of a hit and run vehicle crash with injury involving a pedestrian being struck at the location," NOPD said in a news release.  "Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive adult female victim."

They say the woman was so badly injured, she could not be saved.

"The victim was suffering from apparent injuries sustained after she was struck by another vehicle. NOPD officers and EMS personnel rendered medical attention to the victim, however she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on scene."

Detectives determined that the incident began when the victim apparently tried to stop a fight.

"Based on preliminary investigation, the female pedestrian appeared to be attempting to break up an altercation when she was struck by a four door vehicle driven by an unidentified female driver who intentionally backed up her vehicle striking... the victim."

They say the driver fled the scene after also hitting another car.

"The vehicle will have rear in damage as a result of the crash."

Cops are asking for help finding the suspect who is now wanted for murder.
