Crew recovers one body at Hard Rock

Hard Rock
UPDATE: The remains of Quinnyon Wimberly have been removed from the partially collapsed Hard Rock Hotel construction site

Saturday morning a group of firefighters in a metal box hanging from a crane worked to remove the remains of one of the victim's bodies still trapped under the rubble at the Hard Rock Hotel construction site in New Orleans.

It came hours after the family of Quinnyon Wimberly said crews told them to expect removal of their loved one's remains today.

Wimberly's body has been buried under the rubble of the partially collapsed building since October 12th, 2019.

"We are preparing to tell him goodbye,” Frank Wimberly Jr. said after learning his brother's remains should be recovered soon.

Irene Wimberly watched as crews moved near her son's body.

"I have waited ten long months," she said at the site. "He was my baby."

A coroner's van arrived at the site just before 10:30am.

Jose Ponce Arreola's remains are also still in the building.

Family members say crews expect to recover his body after pulling Wimberly's body out of the structure.

No timeline has been announced fro removing the second body.
