A house fire in Gentilly has left one man dead.
"The New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched to 2726 O’Reilly Street," according to a news release. "Fire companies arrived within 4 minutes to find a single-story, wood-framed shotgun double with flames coming from the rear of the house."
Officials say firefighters extinguished the fire within minutes.
They found a man's body "burned beyond recognition in the kitchen of the home."
The news release says they later identified the victim as a 76-year-old male. Authorities are trying to determine what sparked the fatal blaze.
"The New Orleans Police Department (NOFD), and the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office are currently working to investigate this incident."
The American Red Cross is helping five other people who were displaced due to the fire.
