Hammond Police: Teen stabs caretaker to death

Hammond Police say a 13-year-old boy faces murder charges after attacking his caretaker and fatally stabbing the 30-year-old woman, WWL-TV reports.

Police received a 911 call shortly before 2:00 a.m. Monday, according to the report, and responded to find 30-year-old Cierra Miller with multiple stab wounds to her head and neck outside a home on South Scanlan Street.

EMS attempted first aid by Miller was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Police said the teenager was in Miller's care for the evening. The relationship between the suspect and the victim was not specified beyond that. AP reports describe the victim as a baby sitter.

WWL-TV reports the teenager was taken to the Hammond Police Station, and then the Florida Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
