A torrential downpour Monday afternoon flooded streets around New Orleans, and hit downtown hard enough to put water in some businesses.

WWL-TV's Paul Murphy found street flooding on Poydras near Baronne, and said water made its way under the door of a Jimmy John's subs.

WWL-TV meteorologist Alexandra Cranford reported a rain gauge at the Superdome recorded about three inches of rain in a span of not more than two hours.

The flooding downtown got the attention of Downtown Development District President and CEO Kurt Weigle, who said the flooding was happening in places downtown where they've never seen it before.
