Louisiana seems to be righting the ship when it comes to the recent coronavirus surge of late June through July, but what went wrong after the state had such success through phase one? One local health official has an idea.
Louisiana followed the White House coronavirus task force guidelines, says assistant state health officer Dr. Joe Kanter. But he thinks the numbers they used did not necessarily tell the whole story.
"It really relied on trajectory alone, and not overall rate," said Dr. Kanter.
Dr. Kanter says the metrics the task force gave them are solid indicators, but going in the right direction doesn't necessarily mean you've arrived at where you need to be.
"That wasn't really incorporated or thought out in the initial guidance. We're trying to grapple with it now," Dr. Kanter said.
