LSU No. 5 in preseason coaches poll

The defending national champion LSU Tigers debuted at No. 5 in the Amway Coaches Preseason Poll.

Taking the top spot in the preseason poll is Clemson, who the Tigers defeated in the 2019 CFP championship game. Ohio State ranked second followed Alabama and Georgia at No. 3 and 4, respectively.

Oklahoma Penn State, Florida, Oregon and Notre Dame, rounded out the top 10.

LSU has to replace several starters from it's record-breaking 2019 squad including Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Joe Burrow,  2019's SEC receptions leader Justin Jefferson, 1,000-yard rusher Clyde Edwards-Helaire as well as defensive starters K'Lavon Chaisson and Patrick Queen, who were both first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Tigers do, however, return leading receiver and Biletnikoff winner Ja'Marr Chase along with consensus All-American Derek Stingley Jr..
