Mardi Gras Indian Queen, Kim Boutte, 55, was fatally shot in a double shooting following a funeral repast Tuesday evening.

As The Times Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate reports, the shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. at a banquet hall in the 7300 block of Read Boulevard.

A male victim was also injured in the shooting. Both victims were taken to the hospital but Boutte later died from her injury. Police said the male victim is in stable condition.

“She been there from the beginning. And she was one of the most spiritual people who ever wore a suit,” Big Chief Victor Harris told nola.com Tuesday night. “You wouldn’t believe a little tiny thing like that could make that much noise,” Harris said. “She was beautiful in everything she did. I’m really swollen up in the heart right now.”

NOPD is still investigating the shooting.
