Metro-leaders send letter of support for Gov. Edwards for extension of stay-at-home order

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng, St. Bernard Parish President Guy McInnis, and Plaquemines Parish President Kirk Lepine today sent a letter expressing support for Gov. John Bel Edwards' decision to extend the stay at home order to combat the coronavirus pandemic through May 15.

"We understand that this decision was based on sound science, data, and the recommendations of multiple public health experts and doctors," it reads. "Above all, we agree that it is critical to protect the health of our people."

The elected leaders of the parishes that make up Region 1 of the Louisiana Health Department present this united stance with the governor as some state lawmakers have grown more vocal about opposition to the stay at home order.
