The Crimestoppers reward for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case of murdered nine-year-old Devante Bryant is up to $10,000.
Bryant was shot in the head last week in a shooting with three young victims. Police say a group of people arrived in the 2100 block of Pauger St. July 13 and started firing, killing Bryant and injuring a teenaged boy and girl.
New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson today revealed the child's mother has been arrested in an unrelated crime, but one the chief said highlights the problem of people not being forthcoming with officers.
"That is because her 13-year-old son has been wanted since May," said Chief Ferguson. "He escaped from a boy's home, a group home, in May."
Ferguson says the mother, Donna Howard, failed to notify authorities that her son had returned home, and that's not all.
"Since he has escaped, he has been shot, and she was well aware of he being shot, and she did not do her due diligence as a parent in reporting that her child was shot," said the chief.
Chief Ferguson says they were the ones to get him treatment, yesterday, for an injury they believe happened earlier in the month.
Charges against Howard include cruelty to a juvenile, accessory after the fact to escape from custody, and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
