New Orleans police say a woman was shot in the chest just feet away were protesters gathered in Duncan Plaza.
It happened just before 2:00 p.m. on the corner of Gravier Street and Loyola Avenue.
Police say at this early stage of the investigation they do not believe the shooting was related to the "Defund Police" rally in Duncan Plaza.
Reporters and media photographers there, described a chaotic scene of protesters running, and shoving people out of their way as they surrounded a police vehicle which was holding a detained witness. Police eventually let the witness go after questioning her.
