The New Orleans Police Department's internal affairs division, the Public Integrity Bureau, is leading an investigation into the events surrounding Thursday night's attempted stop of a reported stolen vehicle that ended in a fiery and deadly crash.
"Through further investigation, we have gathered additional factors that warrant a formal investigation into a possible violation of the NOPD vehicle pursuit policy," said New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson.
"The NOPD’s Public Integrity Bureau is leading the investigation into a possible administrative violation," the chief continued. "When I became Superintendent, I made it clear that transparency would continue be a top priority for me and this department."
Two people died after the car crashed into a beauty salon and set it on fire.
Cheif Ferguson concluded: "Following the completion of this investigation, all of the facts will be presented to me, and I will make a determination on the status of the officers involved and take appropriate action."
