As the Black & Gold get closer to actual football during training camp, the team cut the following players, according to the Saints:

  • DE Gus Cumberlander
  • WR Krishawn Hogan
  • S Chris Johnson
  • WR TommyLee Lewis
  • G Adrian Magee (former LSU Tiger)
  • RB Taquan Mizzell
  • CB Deatrick Nichols
  • FB Ricky Ortiz
  • WR Marice Harris

The NFL and NFLPA proposed an 80 man roster rather than the usual 90 man training camp roster. The 80 man roster wasn’t mandatory, and Sean Payton hinted that some moves might be made to trim the roster due to the lack of time on the field to evaluate players properly.

The biggest name of this group is veteran WR TommyLee Lewis. He spent last season in Detroit, before signing back with the Saints this spring. Lewis was the intended target of a pass from Drew Brees in the NFC Championship that lead to the infamous “NOLA NO Call.”
