Slidell tonight begins an 11:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m. curfew.

"There has been significant amounts of police related issues during the late evening and early morning hours," Slidell Police said in its announcement. "This has resulted in our officers making unnecessary contact with several people and potentially, and unnecessarily, exposing them to COVID-19."

"I don't enjoy doing this, but it has, unfortunately, become necessary," said Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal. Fandal said anyone who is not conducting essential business should stay home.

"The longer we don't take this serious, the longer it will take for our lives to get back to normal," the chief warned.

Slidell is the latest community to impose a curfew. Five parishes and the town of Grand Isle have also set up curfews.
