Discovery of an AK-47 leads to teen's accident shooting in Kenner

A 13-year old boy was shot in the arm at a home on California Avenue near the corner of 43rd Street in Kenner last night.  

Kenner Police told WWL-TV the boys found the loaded semi-automatic rifle in a box in a garage and were playing with it when it fired.

The 13-year-old who fired the gun immediately called 911 and then applied pressure to wound.  

The injured teen was transported to a hospital where he underwent surgery.  There is no update on his condition.  

The investigation into the incident found the victim's mother had left teen at home.  He invited over friends.  

Investigators uncovered that the gun belongs to a person who recently moved into the home.
