Bridgewater spent the past two seasons as the Saints' backup quarterback but went 5-0 as starter for New Orleans when Pro bowler Drew Brees went down in Week 2 with a thumb injury. Bridgewater competed 67.9 percent of his passes last season for 1,384 yards and nine touchdowns.

The seventh-year pro was expected to draw interest in free agency and had been linked to both the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots, before reportedly deciding on the Panthers.

He'll join former LSU passing game coordinator Joe Brady, who helped the Tigers to a National Championship in January, in Charlotte. Brady was hired as the offensive coordinator under new head coach Matt Rhule.
