Which of the top ten most interesting bills will pass in the Louisiana Legislature?

After a slow start to the session, lawmakers in Baton Rouge will really start work on legislation next week.

They have some big issues to decide over the next couple of months.  Often, however, many of the hottest topics generate a lot if interest and debate... but no new laws.

I wanted to know which of my top ten bills Political Analyst Clancy DuBos thought would get passed. So, I asked him.

Here is a look at the ones he thought would win passage:

  • The proposed $1000 teacher pay raise
  • Banning abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected
  • Outlawing calling beverages derrived from nuts and bean (Almonds and Soy) milk.

These are among my top ten issues Clancy expects to fail:

  • Raising the gas tax for bridge and road repairs
  • Marijuana legalization
  • Minimum wage hike
  • Equal pay for men and women
  • Ending the death penalty in Louisiana

He said a couple are a toss up right now:

  • Banning drivers from using hand held cell phones
  • Legalizing sports betting

So, if Clancy's expectations pan out, it will be another session where many of the most controversial proposals go nowhere.  He says especially in an election year that lawmakers are hesitant to do anything that can be used against them in political attacks or at the ballot box.
