NASCAR announced Friday morning that its next two race weekends will be postponed as part of the sports world's effort to contain the coronavirus outbreak in the United States.
The events in question were set to take place at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway.
"We believe this decision is in the best interest of the safety and well-being of our fans, competitors, officials and everyone associated with our sport," NASCAR said in a statement. "We will continue to monitor this dynamic situation as we assess future race events."
They are currently scheduled to resume races on March 29 at Texas Motor Speedway.
NASCAR joins the NBA, NCAA, NHL, XFL, PGA and Major League Baseball in either cancelling or postponing events scheduled for at least the next two weeks.
