Sheldon Rankins never came back to the Saints sideline following halftime last game and NFL Insider Ian Rapoport tweeted that an ankle injury could cause the defensive tackle to miss the remainder if this season.

Another hit to the #Saints defensive front: DT Sheldon Rankins, who left Sunday early, has an ankle injury deemed significant, sources say. At this point, it doesn’t sound like he’ll be able to return this season. Combined with Marcus Davenport’s Lisfranc injury, rough few days.

Rankins has missed the first three games of this season as he recovered from an Achilles tear he sustained during last year’s playoffs and was recently named the Saints winner for the Ed Block Courage Award.

This would be another massive blow to the d-line that also reportedly will be without DE Marcus Davenport for the season.
