LSU 52, South Carolina 24: TJ Finley shines in 1st start


TJ Finley threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another as LSU earned a 52-24 win in the true freshman's first start.

The former Ponchatoula standout earned the start after Myles Brennan was ruled out due to an injury he suffered in LSU's Week 3 loss to Missouri.

Finley finished 17-of-21 for 265 yards and the scores against one interception.

Here's how LSU won:

First quarter

LSU 7, South Carolina 0, 7:34: TJ Finley scored on a 1-yard touchdown run. The score capped a 16-play, 75-yard drive that also saw Finley pick up a first down on fourth-and-1.

South Carolina 7, LSU 7, 6:40: Kevin Harris capped a three-play, 75-yard drive with a 45-yard rush. Gamecocks receiver Shi Smith opened the drive with a 36-yard reception.

LSU 10, South Carolina 0, 2:05: Cade York hit a 27-yard field goal to cap a 10-play, 66-yard drive.

Second quarter

LSU 17, South Carolina 7, 11:14: Terrace Marshall hauled in a seven-yard pass from TJ Finley. The score capped a nine-play, 65-yard drive.

LSU 17, South Carolina 10, 5:22: Parker White hit a 45-yard field goal. The score was set up after South Carolina’s Israel Mukuamu returned an interception 56 yards.

LSU 24, South Carolina 10, 3:43: Marshall scored his second touchdown of the game, this one a 51-yarder from Finley that capped a five-play, 75-yard drive.

LSU 31, South Carolina 10, 2:43: Eli Ricks returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown. The pick was his third of the season.

Third quarter

LSU 31, South Carolina 17, 11:17: Harris capped a nine-play, 74-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run.

LSU 38, South Carolina 17, 11:00: Trey Palmer scored on a 95-yard kick return. The score was the first kickoff return for an LSU touchdown in Tiger Stadium since 1981

LSU 45, South Carolina 17, 4:12: Ty Davis-Price scored on a 4-yard touchdown run to cap an eight-play, 77-yard drive.

Fourth quarter

LSU 52, South Carolina 17, 9:44: John Emery lept into the end zone for a 3-yard touchdown run to cap a 10-play, 58-yard drive.

LSU 52, South Carolina 24, 7:39: Josh Vann caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from HIll to finish a seven-play, 75-yard drive.
