Disaster struck the Browns early in Cincinnati and as a result Odell Beckham Jr.'s season appears to be in jeopardy.

Beckham suffered what is being reported as a potentially serious left knee injury in the first quarter that saw Baker Mayfield throw his seventh interception of the season and on that same play center JC Tretter also suffered an injury.

Beckham did not return and will undergo an MRI Monday according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.

“Disappointed for him. He wanted to be out there very badly,” Stefanski said following the 37-34 victory in Cincinnati over the Bengals.

“I am going to wait for the MRI before we know. I would not speculate.”

Tretter returned on the next offensive series and finished the game but Beckham did not after originally being listed as questionable to return.

Beckham was the intended target on Mayfield’s deep ball up the near sideline that was intercepted by Bengals cornerback Darius Phillips.

“First, it sucks. No words,” Mayfield said. “I would be lying to say that I was not beating myself up about it. To go into halftime and see him, and I told him I love him, and he said, ‘Go be great.’ That was what he left me with to open up the second half. That was something I continued to remember throughout the second half.”

Mayfield went on to set a franchise record with 21 consecutive completions and tie another by throwing five touchdowns, including the game winner to rookie Donovan Peoples-Jones with 11 seconds remaining.

Beckham appeared to get upended at the end of the play while trying to chase down Phillips when he collided with Browns fullback Andy Janovich in mid air.

“It is tough. Him and J.C. went down on the same play, and I was hoping it was not something serious,” left guard Joel Bitonio said. “I really do not know [the severity]. I know he missed the rest of the game. That is a key part of our offense. He takes the tops off defenses. He empties boxes for us. He makes big plays. Anytime you miss a player like that, it is tough. He is kind of an emotional guy too so he brings some energy in that sense and so you lose that.”

Beckham has 23 catches for 319 yards and three touchdowns this season.

Bengals rookie quarterback Joe Burrow turned Mayfield’s pick into six with a 1-yard quarterback sneak for a 7-0 lead.
