New Orleans Pelicans rookie forward Zion Williamson has left the NBA's "bubble" in Orlando Thursday morning "to attend to an urgent family medical matter," the team announced.
The 20-year-old star will rejoin the team in Orlando for the NBA restart at a later date.
“We fully support Zion’s decision to leave the NBA campus to be with his family,” said Pelicans Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin said in a news release. “Out of respect for the Williamson family, we will have no further comment at this time.”
The Pelicans are set to open the restart of the season July 30 with a matchup against the Utah Jazz at 5:30 p.m.
