The New Orleans Saints have added guard Derrick Kelly to the COVID-19/reserve list ahead and elevated center Cameron Tom to the active roster ahead of the team’s 3:05 p.m. kickoff with the the Denver Broncos.
Kelly becomes the second Saints player to be added to the COVID-19 list this weekend following Saints starting left tackle Terron Armstead’s positive test for the coronavirus.
A player can be added to the COVID-19 list without testing positive for virus and can receive the designation due to contact tracing as was the case with Saints quarterback Ken Crawley following Emmanuel Sanders’ positive test.
Kelly absence for Sunday’s game leave the Saints without three offensive linemen who were on the active roster. Armstead has played in nearly 90 percent of the Saints’ offensive snaps this season and New Orleans was already with out starting guard Andrus Peat who was ruled out with a concussion.
The Saints scheduled opponent for Sunday also is dealing with COVID-19 issues and closed their facility Friday after a player and two staff members tested positive for COVID-19.
As a result of those cases, the Broncos will be without any of its quarterbacks for Sunday’s game and will reportedly start practice squad receiver Kendall Hinton at QB.
