Hospitals in St. Tammany cancel elective procedures amid COVID spike

Hospitals in St. Tammany Parish have cancelled all elective surgeries and procedures amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in the parish.

“Our surgical, physician and administrative leaders jointly agreed we should adjust our accommodation of inpatient admissions for elective purposes to better enable our teams to address COVID patient volumes,” said St.
Tammany Health System Chief Medical Officer Dr. Patrick Torcson.

As of Monday there are 34 patients hospitalized with the coronavirus in St. Tammany as of Monday. Data from the Louisiana Department of Health shows 35 new covid deaths and 5,326 new cases across the parish.
