The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office investigates a shooting in Avondale involving a sheriff’s deputy Monday evening.

According to Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto, it happened at the corner of Grambling Court and Butler Drive in Avondale.

Lopinto says deputies received a call from a neighbor in the area who said they were witnessing a man beat a woman in the street.

The sheriff says when deputies arrived on scene they found the man and woman in the street. They say the man then pointed a revolver at the woman’s neck and fatally shot her.

That is when Lopitno says a deputies shot and killed the man.

“Our deputies returned fire at that point in time and end up killing the suspect,” Lopinto said.

Lopinto says through the investigation they discovered the man was in a long-term relationship with the woman and were living together.

No JPSO deputies were hurt in the incident. Lopinto says investigators are working to find out what led to the violent scene.
