The National Hurricane Center forecasts Tropical Storm Zeta will make landfall late Wednesday or early Thursday as a minimal hurricane or tropical storm. The center of the cone or error for landfall currently passes over Plaquemines Parish to Louisiana/Mississippi line.

"Zeta is forecast to approach the northern Gulf Coast... Tuesday night and Wednesday, and could bring storm surge, rainfall, and wind impacts to areas from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle. Residents in these areas should monitor the progress of Zeta and updates to the forecast."

The system could be a big rain maker.

"By Wednesday, heavy rainfall associated with Zeta will begin to affect the central Gulf Coast region, which may lead to flash flooding in urban areas."

Before then, Zeta is expected to impact Cuba and Mexico.

"Zeta could become a hurricane by the time it moves near or over the Yucatan Peninsula late Monday."
