CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Some Amazon warehouse workers are hoping online holiday shoppers this year will think about the employees who fill their orders.

Proponents for higher wages, hazard pay and safer working conditions have organized a petition drive aimed at getting the retail giant’s attention.

Ramar Thomas works in a Joliet Fulfillment Center and says Amazon had given pandemic hazard pay earlier in the year.

“We really need it back in place,” Thomas said Monday.

Advocates for Amazon workers say the company is seeing record profits this year but not paying workers enough for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
