CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Vehicles lined up Tuesday as the city of Chicago opened a drive-through coronavirus testing site at Midway Airport.
The new site, in an employee parking lot on 55th Street just east of Menard Avenue, is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon until 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
It's intended for Chicago residents who don't have health insurance.
Gabriel Perez, who lives nearby, arrived early.
“The other places don't give you an appointment for a long time. So, we want to come to do the test," Perez said.
Next month, the city plans to open another COVID-19 testing site inside Midway, as well as indoor and outdoor testing sites at O’Hare.
These additional sites will be exclusively for travelers and people who work at the airports.
