(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It was all in a night’s work for Lula Belle.

The 7-year-old bloodhound with the Cook County Sheriff’s Department helped track down a man reported missing by Steger police over weekend.

Steger authorities on Saturday asked for assistance after the vehicle of a 29-year-old man was found abandoned in the 22500 block of Cottage Grove Avenue. His family told police that the man suffers from mental illness and may have been suicidal, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.

Lula Belle, her handler and Steger police teamed up to search for the man. The K9 was credited with helping find him within 20 minutes of arriving on the scene, the sheriff’s department said.

The man who had been reported missing was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.
