CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A new milestone has been reached concerning Illinois and the coronavirus.
More than 120,000 COVID-19 tests have been performed on Saturday in Illinois, surpassing the record-setting 116,024 tests administered the day before, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. A week ago, the state set a record when it performed 114,370 daily tests.
The IDPH on Saturday reported 11,891 new cases of the coronavirus, including 127 additional deaths, in Illinois.
Since the pandemic’s start, Illinois has had a total of 646,286 cases, including 11,430 deaths, the IDPH reported. Within the past 24 hours, 120,284 tests have been administered for a total 9,708,982.
As of Friday night, 6,175 people were reported to be hospitalized with the coronavirus. Of those, 1,173 patients were in the intensive care unit and 490 patients were on ventilators.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from Nov. 14 through Nov. 20 is 11.5%, according to the IDPH. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from Nov. 14 through Nov. 20 is 13.2%.
