The Kane County Coroner believes human remains found in Hampshire on Monday are those of a Stage 4 cancer patient who disappeared late last year.
Rob Russell says 71-year-old Walter Reimers disappeared Nov. 12 after he walked from his home in Hampshire to Casey's Gas Station on Warner Street and then started walking back.
On Monday, Russell says, someone walking a dog on White Oak Street found clothing and called police. He says investigators found other things, including Reimers' wallet and some bones.
Russell says he wants to be 100% certain of the identity.
Russell says the cause of death is unknown, but there is no evidence of foul play.
