The LaSalle Veterans Home has faced a deadly outbreak of COVID-19, which has also left many residents feeling isolated because they can't get visits from loved ones.

The commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Batavia is leading an effort to ease that isolation with “smart” TVs.

Jay Davis says the goal is to install 175 smart TVs at LaSalle. He said that would make it easier for residents to have virtual visits and help them feel less lonely.

“Isolation — for any veteran, that’s one of the worst enemies, to not be with others. It reconnects that bridge with family and loved ones,” he said Tuesday.

Each smart TV costs around $300 to buy and install, and the VFW is seeking donations.
